In Reply To: What I heard is the "perk package" for US new hires is: - Laptop (of course) - Blackberry, with "data-only" subscription - Mobile phone for business purposes are reimbursed (so one has to ake an expense report on a regular basis = I think that's lame...) - Dental, Health insurance, travel insurance, and the like I never heard of broadband being paid for, but maybe that depends on the location (I don't know the US telecom system that well but I think that Verizon BB is not available everywhere). Oh.... Last thing: the real perk is that the laptop and the blackberry has an "Power Off" button you can use at night and weekends if you want to. ;o) s.
Message: but one of the reasons McKinsey has to maintain the fee structures it does (2-3 x the next closest competitor) is because of the truly lavish lifestyles that consultants are provided. So, the most important perks are that you will go first-class (hotels, rentals, food, air) wrt just about everything. On a more intangible note, wherever the McKinsey brand is recognized, the mere mention of your membership will bring awe and hosannas of praise and admiration. You will happily bask in that glow.
