In Reply To: The college recruiting process ar Marsh hires for what they call the Risk Anlysts. This was supposed to be a fast rack program for high potential highers, but it fizzled after a couple years because no one stuck around and very few people actually got fast tracked. Marsh has since cut the funding for this program significantly. Interviewing is easy, Marsh is not a brainy company like Ibanks or management consultants. If you went to a good college you will have more general business knowledge than most people who interview you. Marsh is not a culture where promotion and advancement are encouraged. It's more of a tenure based system. Though very senior management makes ovetures of change, it's not a business or a culture that will allow it. Risk Analysts get offered salaries somewhere in the mid 40's. Small signing bonuses (5k-6k). There are no bonuses for Risk Analysts at the end of the year. Even senior employees at the operational level can only expect 5k-10k if they were star performers. They will expect you to be happy with an 8 or 10% salary increase if you're lucky. After your first year it goes down to a 2.8% increase. In in all this a deep second or third tier job. You have little chance of gaining any marketable skills unless you want to go to work for an insurance company someday, which pays even less. Any begining ibaker or management consultant will make more than the average VP or SVP at Marsh.
Message: this is a pretty accurate description of the culture at Marsh. This is a great firm for mediocre performers. Very collegial environment...but you are not going to be working with the best and the brightest. The pay is very very average, a great bonus is around 10%..most junior ppl. get nowhere near that. the firm is still very much in crisis..and will never be the type of the firm prior to the spitzer mess in terms of economics
