In Reply To: I worked as a management consultant for three years, just finished my master's, and am applying to consulting firms again. Here's my question: I went to Georgetown undergrad, because I wanted to study international relations, but have since become more interested in business. I was accepted everywhere I applied, including Yale, Princeton, etc., and have been told by contacts at a couple firms now of their "Ivy League Only" or "Top 10 Schools only" hiring policies (if unwritten). SO, to get my resume past the initial computer-checks, I'm considering putting "Accepted to ..." and listing some of those highest-ranking schools. This strikes me as terribly arrogant and ridiculous, but with how much things are computerised these days maybe necessary. Any else have thoughts?
Message: I work for one of those firms and I say with the way economy is right now, anything you can do to get that edge is a plus. Once you are in, it doesn't matter where you went to school. It's all about your ability to sell and deliver services. The practice of hiring grads from top schools is for the sake of client perceptions and external marketing/PR.
