In Reply To: What is the likelyhood of a big 5 consulting firm recruiting a US national at a UK University (Oxbridge)? Considering I do not have a EU work visa. Thanx, David
Message: David- It's extremely difficult for U.S. citizens to get visa sponsorship in the U.K. British firms are MUCH less willing to do this than are their American counterparts; the Big 5 would probably only consider you for their U.S. offices. That said, it is possible and I know a few over here who have done it. You should only consider Oxbridge in the U.K. if you want to go big 5 if you're undergrad--would probably serve you best to go to LBS for MBA if grad--and know that in this market, they're barely even recruiting at those places. Most of my Oxford friends this year are doing law conversion courses as the consultancies haven't recruited. If you're looking undergrad, though, and money is a factor, the quality of education you get at Oxbridge will easily be on a par with Harvard/Yale, you'll work a lot less, and it will cost you loads less money. Definitely worth it, if you ask me, especially when you throw in Oxbridge culture and all the posh black tie events. Good luck.
