i have read many case prep materials and almost all of them do not advise on using this model to crack a case
the reason for this is simply that porter's doesn't leverage the useful information as well or efficiently as say a simple 3 c model where you structure the problem in terms of
-cost
-competitors
-customers
or even more simply just a revenue and expense angle to address profitability issues
it's good to know porters but i suspect your opportunities to effectively apply the model in a case will be quite limited..i would suggest not having your heart set on using it but if a case lends itself to the structure and you have the time and information to set it up properly then go for it
how have your interviews gone thus far? |

(Even though I don't have any case prep materials) My interview was fine, thank you. I cracked the (profitability) case. Used Cs, Profit= Revenue - (FC,VC) approach.
McKinsey was on campus the other day and they said they are hiring more BAs this year. I think that is the general trend in the industry. Good sign...
