In general, I think that this would be an okay move, and would help your career development. If you are trying to break into sales and marketing, this could be an interesting step.
What are you doing now? Is this opportunity better than your current position?

I'm still in the fact gathering stage and have an interview set up next week so I can't actually say whether its a better opportunity.
Currently, I work in licensing at a University and my exposure is in very early stage technologies and limited to those discovered in my small world. Nonetheless, its a great job and has given me a decent foundation in evaluating technology, developing licensing strategies, negotiating etc.
My reason for applying to this position was to gain a broader exposure to the biotech/pharm industry. I think I could benefit from working on different projects and getting closer to the "real needs" of the pharm/biotech industry. Also, I think it may be important to get outside of the Ivory Towers so as to diversify my resume. Ultimately, I would like to transition into VC (like everyone) but I realize that these positions are hard to come by. I would be equally interested in pursuing a career in marketing.
Truth be told, its a little premature for me to be getting into so much detail before knowing more about the position, but your input has been very helpful. As I gain more info, I hope you will allow me to bounce more questions off you.
Thanks for everything. Do you mind my asking what you do? I have noticed that you seem to be know a lot about the biotech/pharm industry.
