Just SOME good years! That's not good enough.
Why would you say that IT Consulting still has some good years, and not that it is an excellent option going forward, period.
I think the main challenge that will be faced by IT consulting (as will also be faced by most white-collar jobs) is the the moving of jobs overseas. I think that this challenge is not just specific to IT, but will affect most white-collar professions.
Why then is IT consulting a viable option (in your opinion) for just SOME years? |

The option itself is of course viable for much longer than just some years.. but IT consulting how it was in the last years won't stay like that forever.
The current two main innovation cycles feeding IT Consulting (computers and the internet) are not in their infancy stages anymore. everyone has a website, b2b potentials are largely explored, fortune 500s are in their xth IT implementation generations etc.pp.
there is still tremendous potential doing "evolutionary" step by step IT developments, but barring any new innovations (like tomorrows Sun announcement actually living up to its promise) the consulting potential won't be rising as fast as it did before (when people didnt have websites, didnt do super networked b2b)
That said again -- IT consulting will always stay a multi billion dollar business and if its what you like then get it in.
If you're looking to make the biggest (not just big) bucks you might just find more potential elsewhere.
