A growing outsourcing company |

Though not as big as EDS or as big as the outsourcing division of IBM/PWC, ACN is one of the larger IT outsourcing companies in the world. A major part of their outsourcing business is offshoring resources. ACN has 4,500- 5,000 employess in India (primarily in Bangalore) and the numbers there are growing.
Outsourcing only accounts fof 35% - 40% of ACN's business right now, but the plan is to continue to transition out from the temporary IT Services and IT Operations side of the business ("Consulting") and continue to grow the outsourcing and offshoring side ("Services").
The problem is (and I speak from recent experience), if you find yourself on the "Consulting" side, doing 3 - 10 month computer programming or DBA or network implementation assignments, you may wake up one day and find out that there are no more temporary engagements for you any more and you will be given the "opportunity" to be rebadged over to Services. (It's an "opportunity" to not get fired, basically). This happened to me.
But even then you are not neccessarily safe. After one year, my own outsourcing spot at the client was transitioned over to a Bangalore resource and I was let go.
So understand what ACN really is and what a job there means.
