In Reply To: hehehe... I appreciate you watching my back when I'm away, TCO, but I do have to say that when I'm recruiting, I want to see that somebody has studied the firms enough to notice the differences between BCG, Bain, and McK (preferably without being told). The culture, operating policies, client work, approach, etc. are quite different. I suspect that BCG and Bill Bain parted ways for more than just trivial reasons.
Message: i think they are all the same, been a strat consultant for 3 years. i would say the differences are irrelevant from a perspective applicant. probably the differences in geography of office are almost as much as difference in the firm. you can say mckinsey more bureaucratic, more arrogant. bain more informal, bcg less practical or whatever, but i think you would be looking at differences in the stereotypes not the reality. if you are lucky enough to choose, go by prestige...mckinsey then bcg then bain. frankly all companies that go after smart mba types draw from the same pool of people and the cultures are pretty close relative to the range of cultures and business cultures that exist out there in the world.
