i have a background in tech, just did a top mba and am now going to accenture's strat group - does this count as 'strat' or not?!!

Accenture have never been 'top drawer' when it comes to pure business strategy, nor in the IT Strategy space, either.
You will probably spend most of your time justifying why clients should outsource any or all of their IT to Accenture.
What you really need to do is to get into some real business topics (somewhere else!)
Mind you, cost reduction is still very high on most priority lists, so expect to do sourcing, out-sourcing, right sizing etc etc etc.
