How can I get into management consulting? |

I would like to get into management consulting and am looking for advice. I have been a Director of Engineering at two well known companies, have an MBA and a BSME from two excellent colleges, and have served in nearly every capacity in a company. I thought this would make getting a job in consulting easy but no bites after lots of effort. I don't think the age factor came into play as I just turned forty. Any ideas?
