In Reply To: Dear TCO, Thank you for your earnest advice; and to other contributing members of this board, thanks so much for the plethora of information. Seriously, this board gives more advice than GSU Career Services. I asked someone @ GSU to contact some alumni, and he told me to search on Google for information in consulting! Anyways, at least they teach you to be independent and create your own "breaks." I have thought of some steps for "breaking in" the industry. Let me know what you people think. Criticism welcome. 1. Network through Alumni by meeting with firms; network through clubs, etc. 2. Apply to 2nd tier firms to get started. (Does anybody know of any good ones, I only know the top firms like Boston, Kearney, Monitor, etc) Any good boutique firms in mgt consulting? 3. Last resort: top five grad school. Let me know what you think and any more advice is always welcome. Thanks.
Message: you're going to have to go to business school no matter what, so i say F consulting at this point. worry about getting work experience that will get you into a top-notch b-school, and *then* start over and worry about getting a consulting job. yes, it probably does help when you're interviewing as an MBA if you have pre-grad school experience, but it wouldn't kill you.
