Message: McKinsey changes the format of their interviews constantly. If you are granted an interview, however, they go out of their way to prepare you for whatever you will have to deal with. Written cases are cases in which you read through material on your own and prepare a partially-completed "presentation to your client", before presenting it to your interviewer. I found in my interviews that they ranged widely in difficulty. Monitor Group uses a similar technique in their interviews, but I have seen little prep material for this type of interview out in the market. Just prepare like you would for any case (break down problems, etc), but add in the reading comprehension component. Some McKinsey offices ALSO give multiple choice GMAT-list tests as part of their interviews, but my office did not. Hope this helps.
