I'm in a bit of a pickle...
It's been two years since I finished my PhD, during which I've consistently held academic posts, but, or because of that, I want to transition to management consultancy.
Given that I have:
1) a PhD in anthropology and sociology (a bit relevant as it was about corporate transition; but I'm definately a qualitative rather than quantitative person)
2) 6 months' research experience leading a collaborative project with an IT consultancy
3) an independent consultancy project which two of us are trying to get underway
Should I apply to get onto a MBA course or is it better to go for a position at a firm?
Given my background, I'm thinking that I'd be in a stronger position to land a job if I go for the MBA option -- am I completely off the mark?
But, equally, I'm worried that the selection committee at the b-school will think I have inadequate work experience.
Please let me know how you think the real world (if there is such a thing) works...

Hi there Miu Miu,
I am currently undertaking a PhD in a top B-school. After finishing, I plan to return to consulting (no doubt a higher position, better pay etc.) or go into academia. Both are very well paid. I would suggest that since you've done a PhD in sociology/anthropology, I would recommend you explore options in OB.. a booming industry.
Cheers,
CoolCyber
