In Reply To: and I would just love a Bainee to come and explain how they have come up with that figure. If you look top down or bottom up it is impossible to see how they could possibly lay claim to that. You are saying that Bain advise on more PE deals in Europe than McK, BCG, PwC/Coba, OC&C, KPMG, Iamco, E&Y/CIL, Burlington, Deloitte & Touche, AMR International, LEK, Roland Berger, MBD and Strategic Decisions put together (and I have only named some of the better known consultant advisers on PE deals within the UK). There are many ex venture capitalists and consultants who have set up as one man bands in addition to these and I have not even mentioned the leading firms in Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Scandinavia and France! When you look at the value of European PE deals, some very basic top down analysis shows that if Bain do advise on 50% of PE European deals they should have substantially higher revenues than they do. In 2001 their global revenues were $825m. What this does show is that Bain's approach to market sizing is most dubious and does not inspire confidence.
Message: Hey Investment Wanker, I'll be starting as an analyst with one of your major uk competitors. You've helped me in the past when I was trying to decide on which firm to join and I was wondering whether we could chat a bit about the industry since you seem to know a lot about PE dd. My email is str_cons@yahoo.co.uk Thanks
