In Reply To: I recently got my PhD in biology and am currently a postdoctoral fellow. I would like to get into consulting and perhaps (in five years) work in biotech management. I don't have any business background, but the Mckinsey and BCG websites claim to recruit PhDs and train them with business skills (mini-mba programs). How often do consulting firms take PhDs (or non-business masters)? What are the American firms that would be interested? Are their any former scientists out there who could give me some advice? thanks
Message: McK and BCG was interviewing quite a few APD's (mostly PhD's) when I was going through the recruiting track. McK has a special recruiting process for the APD's to make them more aware of what to expect and focus more on your potential for thinking in business terms than testing your advanced knowledge of business concepts. You might want to check out wetfeet's guide to consulting for MD's, Jd's and PhD's. It has a list (somewhat outdated) as well as info pertaining to entering consulting from an alternate degree.
