consulting--not for "some"? |

Hi, I'm an undergrad pursuing international relations (IR) and history in a school mostly known for economics. My past work experiences have been in the business sector and I am interested in strategy consulting that works with government/NGOs. Is my aspiration and majors incompatible, per chance? Normally I have no problem getting internships but especially in this field, I am finding great difficulties. Is consulting not for students who pursue a non-finance/accounting, etc degree? Ie, do consulting firms hire students who did more hard-core social science? Any advice or a wake-up call would be appreciated.
