Message: I'm currently at a crossroads in my life and would love to hear some other opinions on my options: German national 26 yrs. Graduated 2003 from Berlin's Humboldt University Law School (top 20% of class). Parttime work as a founder of a web company (small but prestigious client list) parallel to my studies 4yrs. 1.5yrs fulltime work as project manager in office of a ranking member of congress. Volunteering work (leadership level) in int'l political youth orgs. Lots of int'l travel. I'm pondering if I should continue the law path (over here that would involve another two year public internship, maybe a doctorate in parallel and afterwards a US llm program & bar exam there (ny)).. or instead continue with my business ambitions.. and get something like an mba in the future and go the consulting/i-banking path. Over here in Germany it seems as a lawyer you are somewhat limited in your options to really earn big money.. biz seems to offer better options especially in the long run. What is it like in the US? How does the law profession compare to a business career, looked at from a medium/long term view and assuming hard work/high level positions. And if I choose to go consulting should I apply now or use a current opportunity to get a doctorate of law&economics (remembering that doctorates are almost the only kind of postgrads we have over here) Appreciate any insights from over the ocean. -j
