In Reply To: You lost me on your last point Steve. However, the decision to get an MBA is VERY much about money. Get used to it... Every decision in business is about money. It's a simple fact that MBA's get more consideration and are perceived to be more valuable to companies. In some circles it's a necessary but not sufficient condition. Sufficiency comes with your hard work and perseverance. For me, deciding on getting an MBA is about improving my network. Having good connections can more than pay for the $60k in the long run. It's still about $$. If I can improve my network, that increases my chance of knowing the right person at the right time that's going to help me be successful and therefore gain recognition in the form of a bonus or salary increase. It's all about money man... What else are we competing for? I certainly can't imagine that someone would want to pursue an MBA purely for the experience. Studying statistics, finance, and economics just doesn't sound pleasurable to me. It's more of a necessary evil.
Message: Wow...that has to be one of the saddest things I've ever heard. Business does not have to be all about the money...in fact those who make it their goal tend to be the most unsuccessful and unhappy people I've ever met. There is money to be had...and that's a nice byproduct, but how about trying to provide a ideas, services, or products useful to society? As long as that remains your focus, and you combine it with sharp management and a viable business model, the money will follow...Too many with personal gain as the sole motivator and all you'll see is more hollow companies a la Enron and HealthSouth.
