Let me get this straight. You were working at Accenture, didn't like it, decided you wanted to be a strategy consultant, and thus went back to school for a PhD in Math/Electrical Engineering (which is it, it can't be both, because it would either take you 10 years, or its a lousy program)? That's one bright move, pal.
My guess is that BCG will think you are somewhat of an idiot, and unless you have other redeeming qualities (such as deep work experience, connections, extreme good looks) you've drawn the short straw for this.
Cheers,

He claimed he can get the PhD within three years, right?
And up to now, more and more PhDers are promoted to be partner in McK and BCG,right?
And holding a PHD from Top institutions can mean you have strong analytical ability, which is the value McK and BCG take serously. I think as long as he can really learn much during the PhD program and pass through the interviews, he can go back to McK and BCG, at that time he can stand at a new entry level, which is helpful.
