In Reply To: Thanks to everyone who responded regarded IGS and BCS- now my question is, do you know anything about SCS (Strategic Change Solutions)- the ppl. I talked to at the office (and it a small office, less than 100 in NYC) say they actually do not try to sell IBM IT as part of their consulting- they are really strategy based, but.... Also, What sector should I join if I accept their offer? I'm a creative people-person so I don't see myself in "Industrial", or even "Financial Services", but how about "Communications" (incl. tele and media/entertainment) "Distribution" (incl. retail etc.) or maybe "Services" (healthcare/insurance etc.). I'm leaning towards Comunications or Distribution, b/c they seem like they would have more interesting clients...Would work differ that much from sector to sector?
Message: Responses to the two questions you asked: 1) I've seen work done by Mainspring on strategy. It's pretty good and similar to something McKinsey would put out. I think it was founded by some ex-McKinsey people. If you are part of the ex-Mainspring group, I think you may have a pretty good chance of doing strategy-related work 2) Being a "creative-people person" has nothing to do with what industry you choose. The skills you have to bring are the same across industries. Whats different is that you have to understand the dynamics of the busines for a particular industry to become a specialist (e.g. business model, competitive landscape, customer problems, etc) In school, I have all these CS friends that want to go into consulting because they are "people persons." Sheesh, do they think that in any job outside of consulting, there is no teamwork or human interaction?
