In Reply To: I am an outsourcing consultant looking for a reasonably senior position in a firm in New York (Director level) with one of the large firms. Is it better to apply directly to companies (on-line application forms) or to go through headhunters. Are HR departments too busy to really look at resumes? Thoughts appreciated.
Message: Recruiters add a lot of value as they will drive you through the process. After your interview, they'll try and close for another or close the deal for you. They'll also help with the salary negotiations. All of this makes you look less desperate and puts you in a better position. However, for this the firm has to pay a fee or you do (which I wouldn't recommend). If you can get an employee referral or another way in that will get your resume looked at, it'll save them money and may help in the end.
