I work for a big 5 consulting firm. I was promoted to Manager from Consultant. Had been rated exceptional (top 5% in the firm) for last 2 years. I received no base pay raise. In fact I lost my overtime. I am eligible for "Variable Pay" which even if I recieve the highest award will not make up for my loss of OT. My base pay is also 25k less now than comparable managers sitting across the office from me. What are you going to do? Leave if you find something better. Not many other options. It's a great way to kill initiative within the company however. |

Here's a hint: almost everyone is told that they're in the top 5% of the firm. It's a motivation/morale trick straight our of HR 101.
In the current climate, not much you can do but sit tight and wait for things in the industry as a whole to improve, then you have some bargaining leverage.
