I'm working for a former big five and am being promoted mid-year to a director position. The change is public knowledge but salary has not yet been finalized and I'm getting hints that a mid-year salary bump is not a certainty. This is a big jump in responsibility -- from zero direct reports to nearly 10. Is no salary increase even legal? |

Be happy you're getting promoted and not laid off. Salaries are down 10-20% at many consulting firms, and they can pay you whatever they want unless you have a written contract stating otherwise. As an elevator asset, you can chose to leave rather than accept the lower salary.
