In Reply To: i would like to know what would be the best route for a future entrepreneur, would it be Investment Banking or Consulting? where would you gain more experience relating to the Business World? thank you any input is greatly appreciated.
Message: If you're not sure what you want to do with your career and think entrepreneurship is possible then you should definitely go for consulting. You will have the chance to think as if you were the boss and craft strategy and build a business in a similar way (not exactly though) that an entrepreneur might. However, you must be very careful what firm you choose. You need to be looking mainly at strategy consulting and either the top firms that really promote entrepreneurship, such as Bain, or the smaller boutiques. NOT PWC or Deloitte. It's quite common that those who THOUGHT they would gain entrepreneurial experience end up "number-crunching" or being a "gopher". That is the typical i-banking route and it can definitely happen in consulting also so be careful which firm and even which office you choose (AT Kearney in the U.S. is very different from the same firm in Europe).
