In Reply To: in plain words do consultants do. i have a firm interest in the financial markets but i quite like the idea of consultancy. Lets just say i get a job with a firm straight out of college, what contributions will i make to the team. I find it hard but maybe its just ignorance, but how does someone around 24/5yrs tell a 40+ senior manager how to run his company. by the way what do these projects typically entail?
Message: By that argument, how can a 19-year-old mechanic repair the car of a 40-year-old driver? Consultants are specialists in quantitiative decision making. They gather as much data as they can, put it all into Excel, and use statistical and accounting methods to work out the optimal way for the client to allocate their finite resources - cash and management time. In the real world, the numbers can point a manager in the right direction, but there's a lot more to running a business than applying a formula.
