A lot of times firms are looking for fit. They want to see that the person can loosen up a bit and be themselves. If they say "business casual" and you walk in wearing a suit, tie, and the whole 9 you are going to come across as uptight. I would go with a nice button down dress shirt, either blue or white, gray slacks and maybe a sport coat. Definitely not a suit and tie though.
BTW, what firm are you interviewing with? That might also have some bearing on the decision. |

Wear a jacket and keep a tie in your breast pocket in case you find yourself underdressed. Wear a well-pressed woven dress shirt with creased, pressed pants. If traveling, pay the hotel whatever insane rate they charge to do this, because it's worth it. A broadcloth white dress shirt is good, but light blue is also acceptable. You can go earth tones (olive, brown, etc.) for a more casual or approachable look. And if you'd wear it to a nightclub, don't wear it to an interview.
