Message: Hi, all. I wonder which would be good to the eyes of recruiters at strat. firms (Mck, BCG, etc): IT consulting or engineering job. I'm graduating with a PhD in engineering from a top school in US. Obviously, my interviews didn't go well. I've been told to reply again in about a year after some significant changes (like job experience). So, the question above. Someone even told me that once I have "IT consulting" on my resume, I won't get interviews with top strat. firms since they don't hire from "below", which seems like a valid point. On the other hand, I met a guy with a PhD at an info session who moved from Accenture to Bain. Given that I'll work my butt off at either places to stand out from the crowd, which would be a good idea? Thanks a lot.
