I'm a big 4 firm. For the last year or two, we have pretty much only been hiring people with strong technical skills. I have been to recruiting events where I have talked with extremely bright people that we would have taken in a heartbeat 3-4 years ago, whose resumes we tossed.
When only a very few are being hired, the companies become very selective. You can be the brightest person in the world, but if you don't have the skills they are looking for at the time, you won't get a look. |

Do you mean strong technical skills as in computer and quant skills? Since you're with the Big 4, do your hiring preferences differ from the big strategy firms (BCG, McK, etc.)? How do accounting skills fall on your radar? I ask because I am majoring in Econ and Accounting.
