After 4 years at USC, consulting was my first choice. I took all the right classes yet due to financial difficulties, I started and ran my own business on-line out of my dorm room to make ends meet for about two years. However, due to the amount of time I invested in my business, I wasn't able to pull off the 3.5 GPA most students who got hired had!
I feel like I know so much and can do so much more than those who were hired, yet I was not even considered for an interview because of my GPA. I have also tried to get in touch with those companies for out of school interviews but they only want people with experience!
Any suggestions as to how I can get my foot in the door?

Rachel,
Keep at it. Why don't you go for informational interviews with trojan alumni at the companies you are interested in working for. Also your friends who got hired could provide you with insights into the companies and may be able to let to get in touch with the recruiters.
Also, if you haven't done so already, go to the career center and have someone take a look at your resume.
Explain in your cover letter about the business acumen you picked up running your own business as well as time management skills. Try to look at your application from a recruiter's perspective. What can you add/delete to make them take a second look at it.
Hope this helps. Just don't lose hope.
