I'm currently a first year analyst in the structured finance group in a top tier BB. I am potentially interested in pursuing a career in Management/Strategy Consulting at a top firm such as McKinsey, Bain, or BCG. Do I have a realistic chance of trying to get an analyst position in consulting after working 1 year? Or is it much better to complete 2 years? Also, how much does having an MBA help in getting a job? Also, is structured finance viewed as a less desirable background to have as compared to m&a or the like in trying to break into consulting? |

is a very good idea for someone in your position. Given the state of the economy, none of the top three will be hiring at the ac/ba position except from undergrad. If you want to break in you should get an MBA from a top b-school, structured finance will put you in fine position to get an interview, from there it's all you.
