In Reply To: I am trying to find out info on consulting but nothing I've seen goes into any real detail. What do strategy consultants do? I want a response like "help clients refocus core competencies to paradigm shifts" or any such nonsense. Other than traveling a lot, I want to know what the day to day workday is like. (And don't say "each day is diferent. You aren't wrestling aligators on Tues and performing heart transplants on Fri. I'm sure you can come up with reoccuring themes to each day. I'm confused. I imagine consulting would deal a lot with IT, strategic sourcing, supply chain management, an other operational stuff but that does not seem to be as "prestigeous" as strategy consulting. So, what exactly does a strategy consultant do?
Message: ...reframe every question in order to ensure that the customer spends more money than they can afford on implementing an enterprise resource planning system. If they're not broke after that, we then attempt to fleece them by forcing them (with our help)to redesign every process in order to fit the requirements of the new system (aka best practice). At this point, bereft of funds and lacking any competitive advantage over all the other firms (who've now got the same systems and practices), they've become as dependent upon as the junkie on the dealer. They are unable to make a decision without our (increasingly expensive) advice. Neat eh ??
