In Reply To: I am a senior at a tier one public school with a 3.75 and a double major in political science and international studies. I did an internship this summer with the number one think tank in Asia, speak two languages other than English, and am Phi Beta Kappa BUT I didn't even get an interview with BCG or Bain (the two strat firms that recruit at my school). The only thing that was a little weak was my SAT score (1290). Anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on?
Message: Cappone - Once again, the economy is very weak and major firms are only taking a few students from each school. In comparison to your credentials, our consulting offers have been to Phi Beta Kappas with 3.9-4.0's at a top private university, with SAT scores over 1500 or folks with intensive leadership experience (multiple club presidents, student body presidents) combined with impressive past work experience. These are at top universities - I would continue to try, but do know what you're up against. At top liberal arts colleges, there are no more than probably 6 offers given to a class of 500-700. Perhaps it will be useful to go through your alumni database and have one of them refer your resume to the appropriate person rather than submitting it online. In this economy, you have to find some source of competitive advantage, and networking does help. All the best.
