When you were recruiting, what was the general cutoff GPA of Business or Econ majors?
I realize that standards may be much higher in this economy. |

I didn't do much resume screening (did some BA interviewing though). Ther is no official cutoff or equation or what-have you. It's pretty decentralized and unscientific (but I think they are making some efforts to apply basic screening methodolology now.)
What I heard was 1350 SAT cutoff (minimum, 1500 average!). For a fluffy major probably needed to be north of 3.6 with average person like that more of a 3.8 or so. Obviously which college can make a difference. There are still a few schools in the coutnry that have less grade inflation. Resume needs to be well-written and cite some other than academic acheivements.
This is all just to get an interview. And that was at a time when the Firm brought in a lot more BA's than nowadays (and when top candidates had a lot of companies going after them.)
It's a pretty picky place. Not rigidly so. But in general, yes, picky. If you are interested take a swing at it. But don't get too upset if you don't get in. I doubt I would have gotten in as a BA (probably had the horsepower, but definitely not the proven performance).
There are a lot of good jobs out in business other than at McK or Goldman Sachs. So if you end up not being in the gold-plated set, I wouldn't sweat it too much. You can still do good work even if you are not at a place where Rhodes Scholars are "average".
