I might have the opportunity to intern over a few months at a very small boutique consulting firm (~7-8 people).
I interviewed today; the place looks great, the people are are bright and polished, clients are big financial services companies -- I know I'd learn a ton, but I've got to think the name carries almost zero weight come time to recruit with the big firms. I might also have the opportunity to intern at JP Morgan Private Bank, and I'm tempted to do that simply for the name recognition. Thoughts? |

Your analysis seems reasonable. If it were a first job, I would worry about it more. But an internship? Don't know.
Would you want to work permanenetly at either place? Any money difference? The JP Morgan thing will have classmates, I expect. That can be nice. If the little firm really is a slice of heaven, I would go there, just for the peace of mind and good kharma. Maybe you could do a little bit of questioning for each offerer as to what type of work you will do...basically try to get a little more certainty in what your summer will be like.
FYI: When I recruited BA's for McK, I really didn't care that much about where they did their internships. I was more interested in grades (and what majored in) and test scores. If they made it past the resume screen, all I cared about was performance in the interview.
