Give your recruiting contact a call. Be polite and friendly, and say "XXX had mentioned that you would try to let me know at the beginning of the week. Can you tell me where I stand in the process at this time?". Or something like that.
In my limited experience (I had about 20 rounds of interviews with various consulting firms and hedge funds) if you phrase it in a professional and no-fault manner it will certainly not be a black mark. You may get a stave-off answer, but even so you are no worse off then before.
To be clear, that does not mean you should bug a recruiter if they are 2 hours late with a phone call. But if there is a big delay, take the initiative. |

Thanks for the advice! I actually got a message on my machine late yesterday from one of the partners I met during interviews, telling me he had good news. He asked that I give him a call back and leave on his voice mail a number that I could be reached this weekend. I did..and now I'm waiting. Thanks for the help guys!
