Hi,
I'm thinking about getting into consulting, currently a grad student at a top 10 econ program that is associated with a top 10 law school. My interests are in trade regulation, and was wondering which of these two options is best for going into consulting. I'm in a position to get either set of degrees. Undergrad major in econ and math. |

Not sure. Both have their merits.
I'm tempted to say that the law/MS Econ combo has the slight advantage. My reasons:
- Consulting firms do hire lawyers [esp. in better times]
- The combo sets you apart from the crowd
- Higher pay scale if consulting doesn't pan out
Another question to ask is how well each program does in placing students into consulting [or any other field you are interested in.] Some top law schools are actually fairly strong feeders into McKinsey, etc. If your law school has never sent anyone to McK BCG etc. but your econ program has, take that into account.
In the end, though, do what you are most interested in.
