Here's a question that concerns not just consulting but I-Banking as well.
How does a CPA stack up to an MBA in terms of marketability and salary?
I'll be obtaining my American CPA next January and received my Canadian CA ( the Canadian equivalent )in 1995. I'm a systems auditor for a Canadian investment firm - approximatemately CDN$40 billion under management - and am looking for opportunities in the US.
Immigration isn't a problem.
What are my prospects in the financial field down there?
On another message board someone stated
"They fufill different roles. It's like comparing apples to oranges."
I disagree. It's more like comparing MacIntosh apples to Golden Delicious apples - the two are closely related and training in one area is easily tranferable to another.
I'd be especially interested to hear from fellow Canucks.

IB's and consultants are obsessed with the letters MBA but it does round out your education well.
BUT, it's what you bring to the table in addition to those 3 little letters. Do you have an engineering or accounting background in addition to this? What's your previous work experience?
Also, consider the CFA if you don't want to quit your job to go back to B-school. It's more focussed and technically oriented than the MBA but it would give you more punch on your CV.
Other comments on the CFA?
