Hi!
I am German and therefore not sure if all the stuff written on this board is 100% applicable for me. Nevertheless I've posted this message.
I'll finish University in a few weeks as top 1%. I'm having Interviews with different consultant firms for two months right now.
My question is similar to the one recently posted about the time you spend on the job but I would like to know about differences between the firms (especially BCG, McKinsey, Andersen, Bain and Booz):
How many hours do you work at these firms per week?
How do they respect their own leave of absence/sabbatical/family leave/... policies?
How easy will it be to have an office day/one evening free during the week/...? (most firms say that it is possible but up to me to organize that. I have the impression that there will be quite some differences between the firms if it is really possible...)
Can you try to give somthing like a ranking of the firms listed above? |

Pretty much depends what office you will be located. I've been watching these conversations about McK and other big names in the industry and most of the things said are not even close to truth. Actually, all you who are in the industry have probably smiled quite a few times already to these so called "insiders in the industry" comments and "facts"..
I joined McK about 6 months ago here in Europe. It's all up to the workload individual offices have, some of them might have quieter time than others and cultural issues as well as legal & social issues play a great role.
Average study takes about 60-80 hrs per week, depending on personal things (you deliver your work, how long it takes is up to you). I come to the office usually around 7 am and leave around 7 or 8pm. If in the client site, what the hell is there to do in some remote hotel but to work anyway?! So it is not as bad, but ofcourse I can't say for all the offices we have. This is just what takes place in mine, and the way I deliver my work and so far things've been good!
