While I basically agree with MC Recruiter, it should be pointed that there might be circumstances where a PhD can help you in your career advancement. I am living in Europe and there, a PhD still offers some advantage, especially in the German speaking countries. However, I can not make any claims regarding the situation in the US. |

Very true. I spoke with a German BCG consultant a year ago or so, and he was a PhD scientist. He said that the strategy firms hired PhDs agressively because MBA's (programs?) were weak in that country. Interestingly, he also did quite a bit of implementation work; not something you would expect from a strategy firm and this was due (he said) to the fact that European companies were unable to do it well themselves. So, the market obviously varies from region to region.
