I didn't know there were any fellow Vancouverites on here. I'm just starting my final year of school (B.Comm undergrad degree), and am thinking about trying to get into management consulting after grad. Do you guys have any advice on getting a job out of Vancouver? I don't mind relocating, but how would i go about it, just emailing or sending resumes to the States and hoping for a response from down there since there isnt really much up here? |

doesn't UBC Commerce department have a career centre? When I applied to get into management consulting 2 years ago, I simply checked out the UBC Commerce website under career section. The university career centre (I think they're located in Brock Hall) also had a website that listed all the companies that were recruiting on campus (such as Goldman Saachs, Cap Gemini, Deloitte...). So whether they're recruiting locally or internationally from other offices, they would go through the same recruiting office.
Now mind you, a lot of firms have cooled down on recruiting (a year after I graduated, a lot of firms weren't recruiting at all on UBC campus anymore), so I really don't know how easy it would be for you to land a position out of the country..maybe, maybe not.
One of way of doing it would be to get into a Mangement consulting firm locally here in Vancouver, work for a couple of years and transfer out if the opportunity arises.
