In Reply To: The most important advice I can offer is this-do not allow your professional successes, failures and aspirations shape your self image.Employment is a means to an end-not an end in and of itself. Viewing any portion of your assigned duties as grunt work and beneath your ability is a sure fire recipe for discontent.Focusing on what your supervisor and/or fellow consultants are doing in relationship to what your responsibilities and perceived contributions are for any portion of a project creates resentment.Resentment is a wasteful emotion that leads to ulcers and poor job performance.Focus must be on completing your share of the work on time and as well as possible under the circumstances. Take pride in your work but don't define who you are as a person by it. If you choose to continue as a consultant, view time spent in difficult circumstances as a challenge and a learning experience. And by all means leave your work at the office. It takes time but eventually you will be able to separate who you are from what you do. Until then ,it will be difficult to find any work that is satisfying.
Message: Allow other things in your life to define you. A job does not define you. For me, it pays the bills and so I'm willing to get out an unpleasant situation and, quite honestly, I could care less what these people here think. I could also care less what my in-laws think who are so obsessed about money, careers and material things. They are the kind of people that make the USA stink!
