Message: All this talk of strategy consulting makes me laugh. Does anyone really think that the executive team of a Fortune 500 company is interested in gleaning strategic insights from a 26 year old MBA with two years of work experience? Come on. 90% of "management consulting" is process work. This means tedious, repetitive, grunt work like interviewing people, putting together process maps, Powerpoint presentations, etc. Most of the mid to large size consultancies derive anywhere from 25% to 50% of their revenue from process consulting and the rest from technology consulting. In many cases, the technology consultants do not have graduate degrees and make as much or more money than the MBA guys. Sure, there are firms like McKinsey and BCG that do strategy work, but who is delivering it? Generally, partners with 20+ years experience. I'm not trying to shoot anyone down, but I've been consulting for about 5 years, and from what I've seen on this board, some people have a very unrealistic picture of what it entails.
