Where exactly did I come across as being "negative and burned out"? My posts have all expressed the same message - that consulting is a great opportunity to learn, be exposed to different facets of business, and advance your career, however, it requires extreme lifestyle sacrifices. Anyone who disagrees with the latter half of that statement is an idiot.
The problem is that the majority of people who post on this board are not consultants but pretend to be. Probably half of the people who poste here are college students who've "heard" about consulting and live vicariously through their fictitious internet identities. Anytime I see someone post nonsense like "I spend my days flying around the country in corporate jets whispering strategic thoughts into the ears of executives" or "I work for a top strategy consulting firm but I rarely travel out of town and I always work a 40 hour week", my bullsh*t detector goes off.
Sorry if you don't like what I have to say, but I call 'em like I see 'em. Shouldn't you be at a frat party or something? |

I can guarantee you that I the qualifications and experience to recognize the one-sidedness and hositility of your attitude. Did it ever occur to you that maybe people need to figure out for themselves whether or not this lifestyle is right for them, without portraying only the difficulty. A balanced and informed decision considers both sides of the situation, rather than mentioning the good side in passing and focussing on the difficuties as overwhelming. ESPECIALLY if there are college students reading, one needs to be realistic rather than completely pessimistic in what one writes about consulting. It is extremely unprofessional to make baseless assumptions as to the background of someone who challenges. If you must know, I am an attorney with a master's in law and have been an international consultant for 10 years. I love the lifestyle, as do many, colleagues. It is a pity that your every sentence is so full of hostility.
