Some state schools are really top schools for grad work, even tho anyone who doesn't got an Ivy or to a top 10 MBA school would consider any other school, including ALL state schools (the top ones or otherwise) as second or even third tier.
Having said that, if went to a state or public institution for your MBA, it could still be considered a top degree if you went to one of the top public institutions, such as Hass, Anderson or SUNY Buffalo. Also, in the NY market, Zincklin is rate VERY high for accounting and or Organizational Theory and Org Behavior. It was once very strong for strategy & policy, too, until that crazy Indian guy took over the Exec MBA program and molded it into his own image.
So don't be put off by "2nd tier" since the B-School at an otherwise 2nd-tier state institution, could be a top grad program. (I mean unless the grad program, itself, is also 2nd-tier.)
