In Reply To: I joined a consulting firm right out of college, left after 2 years and worked for a small firm not doing consulting for a period of time. Then I joined a my current employer back in the consulting field. You many be older then most of your peers depending on what level they hire you in at... and yes that will suck... trust me I know. I feel consulting companies like to hire experienced people sometimes for a fresh perspecitve since most consultants have never done anything else, but consult. Consulting is a great field, I came back to it since I couldn't stand being in the same office and doing the same thing day after day. Consulting gave the opportunity to go different places and work on different types of projects. That is why I like.. all the people who say it sucks... I ask them if they have ever tried anything else to even give an opinion.
Message: I worked in "industry" for 2 years while getting my MBA. I had the "opportunity" to work side by side with consultants who were at our company. I was not impressed. They had no experience and were basically high-priced temps. It wasn't that they were so good, it was more the people at our company sucked so bad. Yes consulting gives you the opportunity to see the inside of diferent airports, hotels and cubicles. That boss you hate in a regular job. Imagine now you have to eat dinner and have drinks with him every night. Consulting is just like a regular job, only more so. More interesting, more prestigeous (maybe), more money. It is also more work, more travel, more arrogant pompous dorks with nothing else in their life, and more boring then you can possibly imagine if you find yourself on the beach.
