I am currently a second year surgical resident and am interested in transitioning into a career in strategy consulting. Will not having an MBA hurt my chances of interviewing at a top firm (McK, Bain, BCG)? I am interested in health care consulting. |

I have recently interviewed with and got offers from BCG and Bain, having been a doctor.
No MBA is not a problem to getting hired. It may affect your starting position depending on what office you join, but to be honest the pay will be better than what you get now whatever level you start at.
The point that an MBA is important long term is debatable- I think it is more important if you leave consulting, as most people eventually do.
Depending on which offices you join, you may actually do a lot of healthcare, e.g. BCG Boston, McK New Jersey, especially with a medical background. Be aware that medical knowledge won't be that much of an advantage to the work, but should increase your credibilty with healthcare/pharma clients.
But to be honest, it is the worst time to be aplying to consulting, especially in USA, as hiring is down and people are getting layed off.
