I am currently a second year surgical resident and am interested in transitioning into a career in strategy consulting. Will not having an MBA hurt my chances of interviewing at a top firm (McK, Bain, BCG)? I am interested in health care consulting. |

Your MD will be a valuable asset if you chose to go into consulting. However, with a generalist firm like M/B/B, you won't be doing exclusivly health care consulting (unless you build up lots of expertise in med and then join the consulting firm as an "industry expert.") Also with M/B/B, your general management skills, client skills, and financial skills will be more important than your medical skills.
There are health care consulting firms, but I can't think of their names off the top of my head. At a healthcare boutique, your MD will be even more valuable than at M/B/B.
