That you got an interview with Bain suggests that you look decent on paper ... so if others are not picking up on your interest, chances are that they have nothing to offer right now.
Although you question whether there might a "second wave" of hiring this year ... in fact, there realy has not even been a first wave, at least not of *significant* numbers of people.
Even in more normal years (in terms of market demand) consulting firms follow a very structured timeframe for 99% of interviews ... even in good years, there's really no "second wave."

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news ... but I suspect this year is just going to be a bust for consulting.
However, if you look good enough on paper to wangle even a first interview with Bain in this down year, chances are that you could get a job with another of the classic "great first job" companies ... like GE or P&G or Ford or Intel or MSFT or ...
Well, ok, some of those are bust this year as well, but the point is that there are a variety of companies which have always been viewed as places which recruit very selectively and train well ... and consequently their employees are sought out by others.
Chances are that if you could ghet into one of those companies which is widely known as a tough recruiter and great trainer, you will be able to get into consulting either 1-2 years down the road, or into a top 10 B School and into consulting thereafter.
Think long term.

Your feedback is extremely helpful. Thank you very much. I am looking at some of the other avenues you mention and more importantly my B-school prospects within the next 3 or so years. I have always held he belief that a top 10 B school can be leveraged extensively.
my only enthusiasm about orking with Bain in particular stemmed from the fact that the people I have met there have been honest, helpful and extremely supportive. Without a doubt, it is one of the best firms in the industry.
