I would appreciate it if you could define "high caliber". Because there is a distinct possibility that you are correct.
And I assume because you said, "The people who rush out the door at 5PM arean't serious about their careers - they are simply there to earn a pay check." that you are only working for fun or for your health. Am I correct in my assumptions?

It's perfectly OK, and probably healthier in the long run, to want a steady 9-5 (or 7-3:30, in the case of my company). On a dollar per hour basis, it's quite possible you'll make as much as those bankers and consultants do, you'll just get fewer hours. If you want to get a feel for the downside of corporate work, read "Dilbert" every day. Scott Adams worked a PacBell, but we swear he must have spent some time here.
